Another Pinterest Recreation ~ Leopard and Mint

Y'all know what a leopard queen I am.  And I have loved this pin since the palazzo pants came in style about two years ago - which is about how long ago I pinned this to my Spring and Summer Board. I searched the world over and was never able to find these awesome leopard pants, but even today, I love the mint and print together.

This is one of my go-to spring outfits. I love to layer the leopard cardigan on these cooler, Louisiana mornings.  But by mid-day, I'm shucking it for the lace empire blouse that I love so much!

Sorry I don't have a pink flamingo in my backyard to match!

Blush Pinterest Recreation

I've always been a PINK girl!  Ha! So imagine how excited I was when Rose Quartz ended up being one of the new colors for Spring this year!

I have had my eye on the pin on the left for a while.  The look is so simple and perfect for Spring. I also remembered that I had everything I needed to RECREATE this look in my closet, too. I decided to take it up a notch, though, and wear my leopard pixie pants. I wore this outfit to church and since I don't normally wear jeans to church, I decided on the pixie pants. I'll pair the look with my stressed denim in the near future.

Halloween Jeopardy Game

As promised, here's what I did with a GREAT BIG piece of cardboard last week!

I turned it into the Halloween Jeopardy game!  And yes, one of the "bowls" is missing because I still needed to cut out the "star" for the Double Jeopardy question!  I wish I had gotten one of the moms to take a picture while we were playing!  We just propped it up against the white board in the classroom!

Here's what you'll need:
A big piece of cardboard depending on the categories and number of questions
spray paint
Styrofoam bowls
tissue paper
candy, optional
scissors
clear tape (I used mailing tape)
duck tape
a black marker

Spray paint the cardboard and let it dry.  Stick a few pieces of candy in each bowl along with the question/hint/joke and cover with tissue paper.  My bowls only required 1/4 a sheet, but I doubled the paper.  I used clear tape to secure the tissue paper around the bowl.  It was nothing fancy, trust me.  Then I used a big piece of looped duct tape to secure the bowl to the cardboard.  I wrote the point value on each bowl and then labeled the categories on the cardboard.

At the party, we split the class into two teams.  Each student was allowed a turn for their team. When the kids decided which point value they wanted to try, they "punched" the number {bowl} and candy spilled out along with their question.  They were allowed to discuss the answer with their team.  We didn't deduct points if a team got the answer wrong, but the opposing team could try to "steal" and answer the question.

The kids decided to have the girls versus the boys and the girls won by a landslide.  Poor boys!  But the over all verdict of the game was that THEY LOVED IT!!!  The game was a hit!!  We played it while the students ate their Halloween goodies!

I'm a confessed Pinterest junkie.

Let me clarify.

I'm a confessed Pinterest junkie pinner.

There's a difference.

Now don't judge, but after nearly twenty years of marriage, I look forward to putting my eight year old to bed, taking a long hot bath and reading, and then joining hubs in the living room for the remainder of the evening, catching up on shows or watching whatever he wants to watch.  So if I'm reading while I'm in the tub, 95% of the time I'm sitting in my red chair "watching TV," I'm also pinning on Pinterest.

I just enjoy looking.  

And wishing I had enough money to pay all the people for all the things that I want to do!

So last night, since Alise took all the hot water because she had to wash her hair, Mr. Horton and I started on my latest Pinterest endeavor {while we watched the CMA Awards}.

Now, I didn't purposefully set out to do chevron.  But I knew that some of the designs I wanted to use would not be available until around Christmas time.  I couldn't decide if I wanted to go with a black or red back ground, either, but since my curtains are red and close by, I decided on a black design.

I got a little too tired to worry last night about decorating the top shelf, so you'll have to excuse that. Besides, I plan on decorating for Christmas next week and some of my taller pieces will look GREAT on the bottom shelf!

But y'all!!  I truly LOVE it!  The pictures just do not do it justice!  That corner of the living room looks so regal and sheek now!  And someone asked me if there was always a glare like in the second or third pictures, and the answer is no.  That's just because of the flash from my cellphone.

Pinterest Told Me To

I know.  I've been promising this post for a while and I really wanted to wait until everything was "put back together again," but what the heck!  Who cares if the drop cloth is in the picture?  Just keeping it real, peeps!  I'll post another picture later when I've decorated.

For a while now, I had been seeing pictures of striped walls on Pinterest.  And what impressed me most was the before and after pictures.  A plain, painted wall could be transformed into something that looked really elegant and inviting.  Just by striping the walls, the whole room is transformed and I fell in love with the idea!

My first decision was, what to stripe?  I didn't want to mess up my Alabama red kitchen {Mr. Horton wouldn't even have let me finish the question if he knew I was going to suggest the kitchen!} or the bedrooms or the bathrooms because I'm really happy with those colors.  The only thing left was the living room and although I think it would have worked, I had the staircase and those high walls to deal with and I really just wanted something easy to try first {Besides, I'm secretly hoping to repaint the living room soon}.  

So what was left?  The hallway.  It was painted the same color as the living room and although it is a rather long hall, it would be the easiest to stripe.

Next, I had to decide horizontal or vertical?  I've never been a fan of horizontal stripes.  We learned in Home Ec. that horizontal stripes make you look fat. Was I worried that horizontal stripes would make my hall look fat?  Of course not, but I was worried about decorating and hanging pictures on them.  And that's how I decided to go vertical.

So here are the befores and afters:

 It's nearly finished!!  And by the way, I just want it stated for the record that I did the blue taping!

 
 We decided to add a chair rail and paint the bottom of the wall the darker color.  Here's the chair rail.

 And here is the only "finished" project pic that I have and it's from the opposite end of the hall {see the drop cloth?}.

I can't tell you how pleased I am with how the striping and hall turned out!!  I mean, compare this pic to the very first one!  See what I mean by "plain" and "elegant?"  

Mr. Horton did a GREAT job with getting the stripes even {What would we have done without that laser thingy, huh, Babe?}.  He is so much more patient than I am.  I just wanted to hire someone to do it and he said, "huh uh" and the next day he told me to go pick out a color, which, by the way, was Martha Stewart's Buckwheat Beige.  So for less than $100, I have a new look to play with and decorate!
