I haven't made New Year's resolutions in years. Y'all know that. They're just too darn hard to keep and by February first, I'm feeling like a failure. However...are you familiar with the Word of the Year concept? It started about twelve years ago and involves choosing one word that will help you stay focused and achieve the changes that you would like to make in your life throughout the year. I even found a website called, One Word 365, that lets you find people that have the same word you do.
It's been a few years since I've chosen a word, but I was recently listening to Angie Elkins' podcast on Chatologie, where she mentioned that her pastor had challenged them to come up with a word for the new year (You local friends, will notice Angie's pastor's name. Just click the link). And so that got me to thinking...
For 2019, my word is, Glory, and it actually chose me instead of the other way around. During the Christmas season, I had two devotionals that I was reading in the morning for my daily quiet time and it seemed as if every day, one of the devotionals - if not both! - were talking about God's Glory. So I decided to memorize Luke 2:14 for the Christmas season and began purposefully looking for God's glory in my daily life and circumstances. Glory just seemed to blatantly appear and more times than not, I found myself in awe of what God was doing. Then, when we sung a non-traditional Christmas song at church a few weeks before Christmas that was all about God's Glory, I knew that it was the word of the year for me.
Throughout 2019, I plan on sharing my WOTY experiences here on my blog. See, it's more than just a word, Friends. I have some struggles in my own personal life that I really want God's Glory to shine through. And when we remember that it's not about us, but about HIM, that's when God is able to do more than we could ever imagine.
So I'm curious. Have you chosen a Word of the Year? If so, I would love for you to leave me a comment and let me know what that word is. And if you haven't come up with one yet, you still have plenty of time. The new year is just getting started!

I love it my sweet friend! All the Glory to God and I love how it will lead you through the BEST! By the way, it’s me, Andrea, last night all my devices were finally working to comment as me but now, none will. Ugh. Happy Monday my precious friend!
ReplyDeleteOkay first of all I just need to reiterate how much I love the new blog design, it just brought a smile to my face when it popped up! Your word of the year - wow, what a great testimony. It most certainly did find you and that makes it even more special. I have been toying around with a word of the year but I'm feeling too scattered lately, so we'll see what happens.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday sweet friend!
xo,
Kellyann
Thank you so much, Kellyann! Glad my little blog here could make you smile! Love you!
DeleteHey sweet lady! I love your word choice. I've decided to have a word of the year too. For me, it's renewal and I came it about the same way as you. I guess I should write a post about it too. LOL
ReplyDeleteYes, Carrie! You should write about your word of the year, too!
DeleteWhat a fabulous word! I can't wait to see God's GLORY shine in 2019! And thanks for the website - it was cool to see what other words people had chosen. My word of the year is INVEST. It's so easy to go through the motions but I want to really invest in my people and my dreams this year!
ReplyDeleteLove your word of the year, Holly! It's perfect!
DeleteLove your word as well Laura, such a great one. Always interesting how we all come up with our word for the year. I look forward to hearing about GLORY in your life this year. Hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful choice for word of the year. Praying that you will see God's glory in your life and around you and that you can then say "to God be the Glory." :)
ReplyDeleteLove that word!!! GLORY HALLELUJAH!
ReplyDeleteI'm posting my word this week too!
Can't wait to read all about it!
DeleteWhat a wonderful way to use your word this year! I also chose a word and look forward to seeing (what I hope is more of a positive) where it leads me. Last year my word was excited and He didn't fail to give me a lot of excitement...xo
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect word - and I can't wait to see how it manifests in your life this year! I put away all the Christmas decorations on Saturday - the same day Thomas went back to college. Probably too much for one day, but at least it's done! I think my word for the year is Possibility. I'm not totally sold but it keeps coming back around!
ReplyDeleteLaura, I love this - love your word of the year, what it means and the thought of what it will mean for you in the days to come. Oh and I love you! :) I plan on sharing my word of the year on the blog soon and you've encouraged me to share my "why" behind it. Thank you friend!! :) Oh - it's "devoted". ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, Chrissy!! I love your word of the year! It's just perfect for you and your family! And Dolly!! Ha! God is so good, Friend, and I am SO blessed He has given me YOU!
DeleteGreat word! I didn't have a 'word' last year, but this year one feels right so I'm going to keep it. Mine will be Delight. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to following along on your journey this year as you share the ways your WOTY speaks to you and your life. My word last year - which was the only year I had ever attempted a word of the year - was PEACE. Which eluded me so much of the time. I am thinking of giving it another go and trying to find PEACE among the chaos. Will check out the link you provided for finding others with the same word choice.
ReplyDeleteLove how your word chose you. Maybe PEACE is choosing me to choose it again!
P.S. I meant to mention your blog face lift. It looks lovely. Very cheery. I complimented someone else on their blog's new look and they hadn't changed anything!! So forgive me if you haven't either, but it just looks different to me...fresh, clean.
ReplyDelete"Glory" is s wonderful word to focus on for 2019. My word is "balance". Thank you for sharing the link to the website for WOTY. I am going to check it out.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for giving everyone a very nice opportunity
