Twofer: What's Up Wednesday & Currently

How was your Thanksgiving, Friends? Did you gobble till you wobbled?

I decided to put my own fun twist on two of my favorite monthly linkups. For November, I've come up with a few of my own prompts for What's Up Wednesday, as well as Anne's prompts for December's Currently. Here's what we've currently been up to!
feasting || Remember how I told you that my family likes to change up our Thanksgiving and Christmas menus and have non-traditional meals sometimes? Well, this was one of those years! We pardoned the turkey and blessed the fish! It was all so yummy!
celebrating || The baby of our group celebrated the big 4-0 this month, so we went out to celebrate and welcome her to the Forty & Fabulous Club! Such a fun Girls Night Out complete with specialty cupcakes!
wearing || Mr. Horton sported his late father's red sports coat to church the Sunday after the Bama v. LSWho game. It's tradition. I thought he looked quite dapper!
And remember my Plaid Is Rad post and this pin? I have found a favorite outfit for the office. Thanks for the inspiration, Pinterest!
friending || November found me ministering to friends. The month began with my annual Friendsgiving soiree and ended with the heart breaks of some of my dear friends. When my friends hurt, I hurt, too. When my friends cry, I cry, too.

listening || In the early 2000's, I worked for a hospital whose headquarters was in Nashville. Due to frequent meetings and training, I spent alot of time there and became a Nashville Titan fan. Steve McNair was their star quarterback during that time and was later killed in July 2008. I came across Sports Illustrated's podcast, Steve McNair: Fall of A Titan and this old Titan fan is loving it! If you like Serial or Up and Vanished, you might like it, too.

wanting || On Monday, I shared my Christmas Wish List. I'm adding things to it nearly every day. My Grandmother had a ceramic light up Christmas tree and oh, how I would give anything to have that decoration now. So I posted about it on my IG stories and so many of you hit me back that you had seen them at Target and Michael's. Unfortunately, our stores were sold out.
prepping || While Wayne and Alise were in Texas hunting recently, I had some time to do a little meal prepping for suppers in our future. They sure do come in handy on basketball game nights! I made some of Ree's comfort meatballs and Amy's chicken enchiladas and froze them.

gifting || I found these cute napkins and plates at Tuesday Morning, tied them up with some Christmas ribbon, and took them as hostess gifts to a Friendsgiving.
baking || I baked this delicious Apple Crisp for a friend that is having some health issues. She texted me later that night to say they ate dessert first! Ha!  A family after my own heart! Wayne and Alise were so jealous, so I see another one in our near future.
singing || Christmas songs, of course! Alexa has had Michael Buble on repeat. Gosh, I love that man's voice! I personally think we belt out a great duet. Ha! I've also been singing along with the Hallmark Christmas channel on XM.

mailing || My dear blog friend, Andrea, sent me an early birthday present in the mail! While we were in Nashville, she heard me say how much I loved a necklace at Loft and was kind enough to mail it to me for an early birthday present just in time for Christmas! Isn't she awesome?
AND Girlfriend sent me some gnocchi for her fabulous Cheeseburger Gnocchi recipe since I wasn't able to find it here. I had never made gnocchi before (didn't even know how to pronounce it! Ha!) and so I made this easy recipe one night after a basketball game and it was so hearty and great! The family loved it! Thanks, again, Andrea!  You da best!

hunting || Alise shot her first "big" deer in Texas a few weeks ago. She was ecstatic to say the least!
Also! Look what Wayne's camera picked up at his deer stand for about three days in a row! I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
Yep! That's a bear, y'all!! And in another pic, her baby cub is with her. Yikes!

churching || Our church's new sanctuary opened the Sunday before Thanksgiving and we celebrated with one service instead of our usual two. Such a sweet, sweet spirit that day! I was also reminded that it had been thirteen years since we had Alise dedicated to the Lord.
reading || I picked this book up for myself and a friend for the Christmas season. Can't wait to start it on December 1st.
 Jesus Calling for Christmas
snowing || The week before Thanksgiving, we woke up one morning to a light dusting of snow! Such a beautiful surprise! When I told Alise about it, of course she was wanted to know if she still had to go to school and she did.
decorating || I went in to panic mode when Wayne brought down the Christmas tree a few weeks ago and only the middle section lit up when we plugged it in. My heart just fell. But alas! Mr. Horton to the rescue! Somehow, someway he got all the lights to work and now all is right in the world of Christmas. I hope to share some pictures of my decor in a few weeks, but until then, here is one of the newest ornaments to hang on my tree this year! Oh, yes, I did and it goes so well with my margarita ornament my Bestie gave me years ago!
playing || Basketball season is in full swing so I'm finding myself adjusting my work schedule so that I can make as many games as possible. Alise is still playing the point guard position and playing well. They have even won a few games this year. Our Alabama friends are playing well this year, too, and we hope to see them and Coach C soon. So stinking proud of this Girlie! Pony tail and all!
painting || Wayne is putting the finishing touches on Alise's vanity. My mom reminded me of a mirror that I bought just after Wayne and I got married that she was "keeping" for me, so now all that's left is to buy the glamour light kit. He has done a fabulous job on the build.
So I believe you are all caught up on what we've currently been up to!

Merry Christmas!
I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. John 8:12

  3. Lots of good stuff in Horton land! Those ceramic trees are everywhere. You should be able to find one in any department or craft store - keep looking! (Big Lots has them too.)

  4. I have that ceramic tree - hand made by an aunt for a wedding gift in 1982. It has a few chips and a lot of the bulbs fall out and have to be put in when I set it out, but it's a prized possession.

  5. You are busy, busy, busy. Good work to your daughter. I know my husband and my dad would absolutely love to have the girls join them in hunting but they have 0 interest so it's a good thing they have each other. Hahaha. Love how the plaid came together for you. BOth you and hubby are rocking the red color for the season.

Tuesday Morning always has the best plates, etc...(I need to pop in there) I adored Wayne in his dad's red coat. That was my favorite thing. So sweet. I could go on, but I'll stop. 8. I just love all those family photos and that your family is open enough to occasionally shuck the traditional foods and try something new. My family would mutiny if I did that. :)

  9. My goodness, you have been a busy, busy gal! Perhaps I'll see you at the next joint worship service on the 23rd. I was there our first Sunday in the new worship center but did not run into you. It's such an awesome facility. Sure enjoyed reading your "currently's."

  11. That ceramic Christmas tree reminds me of my grandmother. She had one and I always thought that it was fabulous. Wishing I knew what ever happened to it. I saw something similar at our local greenhouse but it was pricey.

  12. You really got some great family photos this year! I think our tree is on it's last leg this year. We had several sections not lighting up, but Michael managed to get most of them working. But it looks a little patchy! I'm going to check out that Jesus calling Christmas book.

  13. Oh, doll, thank you for mentioning Jesus Calling for Christmas. Had no idea about it. There's my Christmas book. Off to order now.
And that taco ornament is right up my alley. Maybe I will put up our tree after all. And get one of those ornaments to make me smile.
Have thought of your Mr. as I see FedEx and UPS and USPS folks dashing about. Hope he will take things as slowly as possible this season.

  14. My ex husband had one of those vintage christmas tree's that belonged to his dad. He was a professor at Penn State way back in the day and his secretary had made it for him. (from the 70's I believe) so anyway.....my oldest daughter asked her dad if she could have it and he gave it to her last year. She was ECSTATIC! I am so glad that he didn't hock it! LOL Happy almost December my friend! Have a fabulous weekend !!!

  15. Ooh, I always love a new podcast, so I might have to check that out. And what a GREAT hostess idea! I feel like keeping some fun napkins/plates on hand would be perfect so there's no last-minute scramble for any of these holiday events...
