First Week of Middle School

Hello, Friends and happy Friday!

We survived our first full week of school and I'm still alive to tell about it! That's a good thing!

I'm linking up today with Andrea at Momfessionals and sharing my first week of school favorites!

{one.} Last week, S called and asked if just the two of us could go out and celebrate her senior year.  It was move-in weekend at the university and I think she had mixed emotions about it being her last year, so of course I said yes. She wanted to go to "the place you and your friends always go to" so we headed to a local Mexican restaurant and had the best time. I love having my girls together, but I also enjoy one on one time with them, too. S told me that she decided to go thru Rush Week this week so that she could meet new people and I was totally surprised about it. I'm not sure how she will balance sorority life and being an athlete, but I am so proud of her for getting out of her comfort zone and for doing something new. She texted me from the first meeting and said, "There's too many southern belles in here." I died laughing!

{two.} Most of my week was devoted to getting back in a routine with Alise. My precious middle schooler has gone from play makeup to wanting a Kylie Jenner Lip Kit overnight. We're trying to balance homework, cheer practice, pep rallies, and games. Earlier bedtimes for all of us really helped, too, this week. On Sunday night, we had Meet The Mustangs at school and I was so proud of her squad's performance!  They were awesome!

{three.} I was craving so much comfort food this week. On Sunday afternoon, I spent a few hours making not one, but TWO lasagnas. One for company Wednesday night and another for S and her roommates. I guess I was feeling guilty since we couldn't see her like we normally do on Sunday evenings and Lord knows those girls are always hungry!

Then Monday afternoon, I got to craving chocolate cake and since Wayne was running by the grocery store on his way home already, I just added a few more things to the list!

Mama was happy!

And that was basically our week! If there was ever a time when I felt like the mom that wears all the hats, it was this week! Between chauffer, tutor, cook, maid, errand runner, and pet taker-outer, I feel like I've done it all. Not that I haven't been all of those things before, but it was a little overwhelming this week with Wayne working late a few nights and S needing my attention, too. I can tell we are in a "new" stage in our family and that makes me a little sad. Alise is growing up so fast and for the first time in a long while, I simply want time to stand still.

I am so thankful for her Christian cheer coach.  She sent this text to the girls this week:

I am deeply loved, divinely appointed, abundantly equipped,
and profoundly cherished by God. No enemy plan, scheme,
or obstacle can keep me from God's highest and best will for
me. As I follow the voice of my Savior, I see the invisible,
accomplish the impossible, and love the unlovable. I am a
living-breathing miracle because Jesus Christ lives in me!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  2. First off, I love the message from the cheer coach. It makes such a difference knowing the heart of the people in your kid's life! I hope Alise has a fantastic year!
I also love that you took some one on one time with S. You two have such a special bond. I am sure her roommates were super appreciative of that lasagna, too! I can't imagine how different a locker room and sorority house are. I'm sure she'll get some good laughs out of it! :)
I have felt so much better this week going to bed earlier and being back in a routine, too. I hope y'all have a fantastic weekend recouping from the week.

  7. Well, it must have been the week to cook. I made two lasagne's also for an upcoming event. I love making them ahead and freezing them until I need them. Sounds like Alise and S are off to a good start this school year.

    1. I usually half a 9 x 13 lasagna for us and freeze the other half for another meal later on, but I knew Stephanie would want one. She texted me later that she loved it and I was an "MVP!" We had enough for leftovers and Alise's lunch this week!
