I left off last time by telling you that Wayne and I were on our way to pick up Alise in Alabama. We've never been so happy to see her! She was literally glued to my side for the rest of the weekend!
We were fortunate that weekend because there was no sales tax so we shopped for back to school clothes, ate at restaurants that we don't have at home, and said good-bye to our family. We stopped in Tuscaloosa on the way home Sunday to see our friends that moved a year ago and had lunch with them at Olive Garden. We had a great visit! We miss them so much! Maddie has gotten so tall! Alise loved getting to see her best friend again! We could barely get them to eat because they were so excited to see each other!
When we got home, we walked right into middle school cheer camp! Of course, my favorite cheerleader was excited to see her school friends again and learn new cheers and dances. The great thing about this year, is that the squad - of nearly thirty girls, no less - will be cheering at all the home pep rallies this Fall! Alise has already decided who she wants as her Big Sis this year, a junior on the Varsity squad named Annie. I watched her with Alise at the exhibition on Thursday and she seems to be a very nice girl. Of course, it was SO strange not to see our last year's Big Sis, K, in the group! We miss her SO much but know that she will have a great freshman year at LSU.
So the race was on last week to find out who Alise's homeroom teacher would be. I knew we would have a new teacher because of some staff changes. And let me just say that it galls me to no end that our principal waits until the latest of the latest to post class rolls every year! Why? It's amazing that other schools across the United States, Louisiana, and even our community can find out their teachers months in advance and we have to wait until the very end. If she's so concerned about parent complaints, she needs to put her big girl panties on and say, "Ya know what? I'm the principal!" and roll with it! I've never complained over which class Alise was in or who her teacher was. The waiting to find out is utterly ridiculous!
But I digress.
So late Thursday afternoon, I stopped by the school on my way to pick Alise up from summer camp and lo and behold, the angels sang! Class rolls were up and yes, we have the new teacher! Hours later, my phone started blowing up with group texts from all the parents in our room! Of course, everyone wanted to know everything about her. One mom even stalked her on FB and messaged her to ask if she was the new 4th grade teacher at our school. Hey! We RO moms don't play! The teacher responded that yes, she was and then everyone was on FB to see how many mutual friends they had with her. I don't do much on FB, but I decided to see just how many mutual friends I had with our new teacher, too! Let's just say that I win the prize! Twenty-nine peeps! I also did some asking around at church on Sunday because we have several teachers in our Life Group and I got mixed reviews. We'll see. I'm really hoping and praying for a great year!
On Saturday night, I had a Mom's Back-to-School Bash at my house complete with Mexican food and grown up green icees! What turned out to be "no kids invited" turned into these bathing beauties crashing the party!
Some other sweet classmates stopped by later and in all fairness, the kids were great! They swam until well after dark and then Wayne fixed them up in the theater room with a movie. The moms mosied up to the island and that's where we stayed for the remainder of the evening - except when we had to fix the kids plates, of course! I made tacos with all the fixings, dips and queso, Mexican cheesy rice and refried beans. The moms had a GREAT time!
Yesterday, we celebrated our family's July & August birthdays with my parents. They took us out to eat at Long Horn. I had the Parmesan Crusted Chicken and it was great! Alise surprised us by getting the kid's steak and inhaled the entire thing! Baby Girl is growing and I can't seem to fill her up these days!
School starts this Wednesday for us! Alise has mixed feelings. About school, of course. Not about seeing her friends. I'm all in an uproar about getting back into a routine. I didn't sleep last night just thinking about everything. My mind simply wouldn't shut off! I feel like I'm having to juggle so many things with Alise's schedule this year and I'm not a juggler!
For anyone that's interested, Dolman tops are back on Groopdealz today for $8.99! I love my magenta one so much that I ordered a black one today. You can thank me later.
