A Day In The Life ~ Saturday

It's been a VERY long time since I've written a day in the life post. I mean, Alise had to have been three years old the last time I posted one. Since we had a pretty busy Saturday planned, I decided to do one again. I try not to cram a whole bunch of activities into our Saturdays, but it was the weekend before school starts and I wanted to spend some quality time with my freshman. That still hasn't sunk in yet, y'all. We'll see how I feel on Wednesday when it becomes reality.

7:30 || This time came early Saturday morning, but we had a very busy day planned, so we had to get up and get going. For the first time all summer, Alise was actually up before we were and like always, the music in the bathroom was loud and there was a shortage of hot water!
8:00 || I had to get Chrissy's birthday package ready for mailing. My sweet friend celebrated her birthday yesterday and I was SO disappointed in myself, because I've had her gift since early this summer and I let LIFE get the best of me and I was late with mailing it.
8:15 || This was my outfit of the day. I love this Free People tee, but it has gotten a little too big. I guess that's a good thing?
8:45 || We had a family back-to-school brunch at our favorite local coffee bistro. Their cinnamon rolls are simply scrumptious!
So many of you have asked me if Alise's hair is natural curly, too, and I would have to say, yes. In the picture with Wayne, she had washed her hair and blowed it dry. Those curls make this Mama oh-so happy, but (of course!) she hates them. By the way, I love that picture of Wayne and Alise.  Those two will always have my heart!

9:30 || I mailed Chrissy's package. I was so fortunate that the post office wasn't slammed. Does anyone recognize a fore-gone relic in this pic?
10:00 || Speaking of Alise's hair, she had an appointment for a cut with her favorite stylist. Trust me!  We have followed this chic to every salon in Monroe, but Alise loves her and doesn't want anyone else to cut her hair. The curls are definitely gone and replaced with lots of texture.
11:00 || We took two garbage bags FULL of gently used clothes to Plato's closet. I mentioned last week that this store is Alise's newest rage. She's in to "thrifting" now (WHY?? I guess I shouldn't complain, though, because it IS saving me money!). She did surprisingly well on her haul and has a stash to add to her bank account.
2:00 || Alise and I went to see the movie, The Art of Racing In The Rain, based on a popular book that - believe it or not! - I did not read. I wasn't wild about reading a book from a dog's point of view when it came out, but the movie is WONDERFUL!  Be sure to bring lots of kleenex!  It's one of the best movies I've seen in a while.
4:30 || On our way home, I had to stop at the grocery store for things I needed for supper. This is the special ingredient for my baked beans that is sometimes hard to find.
5:00 || I didn't STOP Saturday evening when I got home! I made the baked beans and a loaded potato casserole for dinner to go with the ribs Wayne was smoking. I joined him at the cook shack to brown some PW's meatballs for a dear friend that had just had a baby. I took a meal to her yesterday and finally got to meet Baby Briggs. Wayne and I caught up on Yellowstone. Supper was delicious.
This is not my plate, by the way.  I don't eat ribs. I asked Wayne to grill me some chicken breasts instead.

9:00 || I was exhausted! I spent only a few minutes reading Beatriz William's new novel and then it was lights out!
I'm trying my best to resume somewhat of a regular blogging schedule, but it may be September before that actually happens. I assume that it will take a few weeks to regain our regular school year routine. Right now, I'm beating my freshman over the head with To Kill A Mockingbird! Can you believe I've never read that book, either? I've never been into the classics and obviously my kid isn't either. Right now, I'm just praying for strength to make it through honors English.

  6. Gearing up for all the back to school fun!!!! Hopefully there's a whole new wardrobe in thank to Plato's closet too :)
Look at your shirt being too big - you've been working hard at that little figure of yours.
I saw a pay phone the other day in the library & was shocked its 50 cents to make a call now. WOW

  7. Such a fun Saturday. To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite books. I am kind of thinking it’s not a good idea if I see that movie right now, but eventually I know I won’t want to. Too funny about Alisa wanting to thrift shop at Platos closet. I just took some stuff there the other day and it turned most of it down because they said it was “Too nice” lol. I hope you’re having a great day friend!

  9. Wow! I can see why you might have been tired by the time you got to bed; that is full and busy day. My boys and I ran across a pay phone not too long ago and no joke they asked me what it was and how it worked! Definitely a relic of the past.

  10. Talk about some good hair! Love Alise's waves and her new 'do. She looks all ready to start high school, mama.

We loved the movie Racing, too. PC read the book and liked it a lot. I knew I would cry through the whole book so didn't read it. Instead, I cried through the whole movie.

Those ribs look so good. I did some in the InstaPot and then tossed them on the grill for a bit but they didn't get as deliciously crispy as yours.

Glad to see a day in your life. Anxious for you to get back to blogging more regularly. Hope you plan to revive 3 Things. If you need help with it, holler!
