My Summer 2019 Reading List

Summer is a few weeks away and I'm thinking about all the great books I'm going to be reading on my raft in the pool for the next three months. The pollen is officially gone, and Wayne has already been working on the pool. I know one teenager that can hardly wait! Unfortunately, my favorite raft of all time bit the dust over the winter months, so Mr. Horton is searching for me a new one. My only request is that it has a cup holder. Oh! And a pillow top! It's the little things.

I got an email a few days ago from our local library letting me know about their summer reading program again this year. Last year, I totally under estimated the number of pages I would read. Although I haven't set a goal yet for this year, today I thought I would share the books that I'm looking forward to reading this summer.
Daisy Jones And The Six || This book was Reese Witherspoon's monthly book club pick a few months ago and it's been all the talk on social media. I loved Taylor Jenkins Reid's, Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, so I am looking forward to another of her books set in the 70's that's about sex, drugs, and rock and roll. A little birdie told me that it's loosely based on the band, Fleetwood Mac.

Before She Knew Him || My first Peter Swanson book ended up being one of my top three favorite books for 2018 so I am thrilled to read his latest, Before She Knew Him. So far, this book seems to have gotten mixed reviews, but I still can't wait to read it.

Cemetery Road || Well, the girls and I missed out this year on Greg Iles' book signing, but there's no stopping me from reading his latest read. Although this book is a stand alone and does not follow the Penn Cage trilogy, I'm looking forward to reading it.

Sunset Beach || Mary Kay Andrews is known for her beach reads every summer so of course I'll be reading her latest chick lit.

Shamed || I have my best friend in Alabama to thank for introducing me to the Kate Burkholder series. Linda Castillo does not disappoint with her mystery and thriller books based in Amish country. I look forward to these books every summer and they are always my go to's when I can't find anything else interesting to read.

An Anonymous Girl ||  This book has been out for a while and I've been putting off reading it because of mixed reviews (and the kindle price!). I loved The Wife Between Us by the same two authors, Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, and so I'm hoping that it will not disappoint.

The 18th Abduction || Another favorite summer series by another favorite author, James Patterson. This is the 18th book in the Women's Murder Club series. I absolutely love these characters and these books are always easy, fast reads.

The Golden Hour || I certainly could not forget the latest book by one of my favorite historical fiction authors, Beatriz Williams! She was such a delight to meet last summer and her books normally meet my high expectations and love for history.

So what are YOU reading this summer?  Have you read any of the books on my list? If so, what did you think? Are any of these your favorites already this summer?

  1. This is so inspiring! I made a promise to myself that I'd try to save money and only get books from the library or the monthly free ones offered on Kindle. I am reading a good one right now that was free - The Perfect Child. I love to read!!!

    1. I'll have to check out The Perfect Child, although it doesn't sound like you favorite genre? Is it more of a novel than thriller?

    1. Not sure I've read Bring Me Back, but I did like another B.A. Paris book I read a few years ago. I'll have to send you a picture of my new raft. I got it this weekend at our local pool store!

  7. We both love the Kate Burkholder and Women's Murder Club series of books, especially when nothing else is currently available. I think you are the one who introduced these to me! This is such a great list. Definitely give Anon Girl and Before She Knew Him a try... I enjoyed both. Daisy Jones is at the top of my list, and I really want to give Iles a try sometime.

  8. I am adding Daisy Jones and also Sunset beach. I cannot wait for long summer days of laying on the beach, reading and enjoying water sports. I should start planning my reading list.

  9. These all sounds great! So far I've only read Sunset Beach; which I did think was cute but not my favorite of her books.
