The week before Christmas, Alise FINALLY decided that she wanted a pair of Sperry rain boots (We called them "duck boots" when I was her age). I was worried about spending money on boots that she wouldn't really wear, but she assured me that she liked them and would wear them, so off I went to our mall for a pair. Luckily, they had them in her size and that was the last Christmas gift I bought for the season. And, true to her word, she has worn them and dare I say, really likes them. And the more she wears them, the more I wish I had a pair, too!
So on a wet New Year's Eve, while she had friends over and they were upstairs in the theater room, I snuck into Alise's closet and tried on her duck boots. And y'all, I really like them!
Unfortunately, I can't wear boots like this to work and so I can't suffice my very own pair. Instead, I've decided that I'll wear Alise's on the weekends when I feel like it because until the end of February, she'll be wearing basketball high tops for games. Works for me.
I would also like to mention how happy I am about finally being able to wear some of Alise's things and vice versa. When she was a baby, I use to imagine a time when we would be able to "borrow" from one another and it looks like those days have arrived. Our tastes in style are still very different, but there are a few pieces that we interchange, so maybe I should do a blog post about that? Nope. I'm pretty sure my teenager would have no part in it.
Sigh.
I haven't been feeling well this week. On Monday, I came down with a bad migraine, but suffered through Alise's basketball game. The lighting was so bright in the gym that it made my head hurt even worse. As soon as I got home that night, I put on my pajamas and went to bed so I didn't even watch the National Championship game, which is a good thing from what Wayne told me! Yesterday, I still had a headache, but it was tolerable and so I'm hoping today will be even better.
Also, I have to say a BIG THANK YOU to all your kind words regarding my new blog layout. I just LOVE it! Linda at My Fairy Blog Mother made all my dreams come true! She was a delight to work with and ever so patient with me as I had NO idea which direction I wanted to go and I'm so clueless to all the design stuff. So if you're looking for a new design yourself of just need some tweaking, I highly recommend my new friend, Linda! Go check her out!

Oh how this post made me smile. When I was in high school, my mom and I shared shoes and it was so fun. Then my dang foot grew one size bigger. I had duck boots on the day and a pair of duck loafers I loved. I have a Sperry pair now and they are so great for throwing on for quick errands. I love the ones you are wearing and good for you mama! I hope this week is on the upswing for ya my precious friend! xo
ReplyDeleteI don't remember wearing my mom's shoes because I think her foot was always a size bigger than mine, but we did share tops and blouses. That's the way I could convince her to buy me something by saying, "But mom! We can both wear it!" HA!
DeleteWell friend I am sorry about your migraine. I have never had one but I can't imagine sitting in a gym with those bright lights with any kind of headache - you are a saint and such a great mom. My mom, sister, and I used to share clothes and shoes and it was so much fun! You and Alise will have a blast doing that!
ReplyDeletexo,
Kellyann
Thanks, Kellyann! Mommin' ain't easy!
DeleteThat is so fun that you and Alise can share clothes and shoes! I remember those "duck boots" from back in the day - so cute! I'm so sorry you haven't been feeling well! Hope you get some rest!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tanya!
DeleteI hope the rest of your week is pain. Katie bought a pair of LLBean duck boots with some Christmas money. They are ex-spensive. I had them in college too. My mom and I were 1/2 size different in shoes so we could never share and KT and I are the same, but I don't really like her wearing my shoes. HA! She did borrow my favorite Lucky boots and we ended up ordering her an identical pair and I sent her back with my old SE leopard flats bc I replaced them. That's prob much more than you needed to know. LOL. What if...I shut up now. 😂XOXO
ReplyDeleteHa ha! "What If..."
DeleteIsn't it funny when styles come back around (even though that shouldn't be possible because we aren't old enough for that!)? Holden and I area also in the same size - I looked down at church on Sunday and realized she had "borrowed" a pair of my shoes! haha!
ReplyDeleteToo funny, Holly!
DeleteI remember when I was a teenager, my dad bought me "duck boots" to wear when I was working at my horse's stable. I HATED them. Then, of course, they came back in style last year, and I bought myself a pair, and love them! My almost 12 year old now wears the same size shoe as I do, so she has been stealing my shoes. I have a feeling we're going to be swapping a lot!
ReplyDeleteOh, my! So you have a teenage daughter, too! The fun is just beginning!
DeleteI love your new blog look! It's always fun to freshen up things.
ReplyDeleteI've seen those boots around awhile now & I LOVE them. I have one girl who got a pair MONOGRAMMED! #goals! I need a pair for my walk downtown from the parking garage on rainy days. Maybe I'll TREAT YO SELF before Spring showers get here
I've seen the monogram ones and I LOVE them, but there ain't no way Alise would wear them! I've also seen the ones with leopard print at the ankle and I tried to get her to get those and nope! She likes what she likes and I just have to roll with it!
DeleteI could only share shoes with my mom in like, 5th grade! Then I outgrew her haha. I think my daughter is going to be the same way - she's got some big ole feet for a 6 year old!
ReplyDeleteAlise has got fat, flat feet, too! I never could wear my mom's shoes when I was younger, though.
DeleteI have and love Sperrys. They last for years and mine have been great in snow.
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me know! I hope these will last her a few years, too, because I think her foot has actually quit growing. We'll see.
DeleteI love my duck boots! I have two different color of Sperry's and they are awesome! They last forever too!!!
ReplyDeleteWould you believe I actually had a pair of Sperry booties about fifteen years ago and threw them away? I'm still kicking myself! I got them for a ski trip to Colorado and assumed I would never go skiing again, so I didn't keep them.
DeleteHow great to have a whole second closet to choose from! Growing up with two sisters we all (mom included) raided each other's closets. It was great! With three boys I do not have that option at all.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had had a sister so that I coulda raided her closet!
DeleteToo cute! and great pictures. I really want a pair and have been watching the cream ones. I wish me & Carly Jo could share
ReplyDeleteI love this! I don't have anyone I can share clothes with - unless I want hunting gear! We called them duck boots too - I wonder why? Sorry to hear about your migraine. Mine have been getting worse - I'm wondering if it's premenopause/hormones? If I catch it early enough with an Excedrin Migraine, they don't get too bad.
ReplyDeleteI remember "duck boots" although I didn't have any. These look so adorable on you, I'm glad you gave them a try. My daughters and I are finally all about the same size in clothing (I had been over weight), but the only thing I've tried is one of my girl's distressed white jeans--yikes!--she wears them a lot tighter than I ever would! Ha! Your new blog format looks fab! I'm glad your migraine has passed, those are nasty!
ReplyDeleteThank so much, Kim!
DeleteSomething about these darling boots reminds me of college and sorority days. Never had any of them myself but there was this little boutique on the edge of campus that had monogrammed everything and I am thinking maybe I saw some of these boots there? Monogrammed or even with Greek letters rather than initials. Wish we had enough rain to justify having some!
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about ordering me a pair of these boots to take to Ok with me next month. We're going to Clancy's big sheep show and Bridget says I don't need to wear nice boots, so I figure these are what I need.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your migraine. Bless you!
Linda is the all time best blog designer. She did mine and I love it. She's a jewel to work with. Happy weekend!
I think you would look GREAT in duck boots, Lea!
DeleteI remember when my oldest daughter and I began borrowing stuff from each other.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly loook cute on you - guess you need a pair now too...and BTW Linda did a great job on your blog - looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Carrie!
DeleteHahaha, I don't blame you... can I steal them next??? ;-) - http://www.domesticgeekgirl.com
ReplyDeleteI came over from Linda's blog. She did my own, too. Just LOVE that woman. That you are the "craziest" is what made me visit. Us crazies have to stick together. I am your newest follower and love you already. Putting your blog on my side bar so I don't miss a post! Hugs- Diana
ReplyDeleteAw, Diana! Thank you so much! Headed over to your blog, now!
DeleteYou are so funny Laura! I love it. You look great in those duck boots for sure and I would so be borrowing boots from my daughter if I had one! I hope you're feeling much better this week!
