Red White & Blue Link Up

YAY! Welcome July and Happy 4th, everyone!

I know that I am not the only one that can't believe that today is July 1st. Wow! Like someone mentioned last week, Summer 2019 is FLYING by and for the first time evah, I'm not wanting it to end. Usually by this time of the season, I'm over summer (and the heat!), but I'm actually still enjoying our no routine and lazy days. Ask me how I'm doing around July 25th, okay, because the temps are really heating up here in Louisiana and y'all know how much I don't like to sweat!
Well, today is the DAY! I hope you're here because you're joining Andrea, Lisa, Chrissy, Kellyann, Shelly and myself for our very FIRST linkup. It's an exciting day for us and especially me because I've never hosted a linkup until today. Eek! I'm just praying that everything works the way it's suppose to, and if not, Que Sera Sera (But seriously, fingers crossed!) Thank you for linking up with us today and especially for mentioning the linkup in your posts late last week. The more the merrier and if you're just stopping by to read and see what all the excitement is about, we're so glad you're here! Click on a few blogs below, get some ideas and make some new friends! It's all about RED, WHITE, BLUE, and YOU today and we're glad you're here!

So first of all, I'm all about FLAGS this year for the Fourth, y'all! Gimme all the flags!  I have found SO much inspiration on some home decor Instagram accounts I follow and so I've been buying up all the flags at Walmart, Hobby Lobby, and Michael's. I mean just look at this tablescape!

Here are a few ways that I've decorated at the Horton casa this year. Our flag has been out since the beginning of June. I like to fly it high and proud all summer. We alternated banners in between our hanging ferns across the porch and y'all they are HUGE, but we kept them and I love the way they look across the front of the house.
I got a little impatient to get this picture that I didn't give Mr. Horton time enough to move the bags of sack crete from our back porch. I mean, doesn't every body have sack crete at their back door? And seeing that awful light reminds me that it needs replacing, too.  Oh, well.  Just keeping it real, Peeps! I got the idea for the flags in the ferns from Amy Hannon.  I just LOVE her!

As for the inside of the house, I kept it simple with a few flags and you can check out my summer inspired tier tray on this post
My friend Kellyann loves my Cajun Caviar dip, but she's had a hard time finding hot, red pepper jelly where she lives so I offered to mail her some in time for July 4th. I love giving small happies to friends and my NEW friend, Jennifer (who I'm secretly hoping to meet next month!), makes THE CUTEST tags for just about every occasion, so I bought her God Bless America tags for $5 and attached them to the jars of jelly I mailed to Kellyann. I thought they turned out SO stinkin' cute!
Speaking of food, what are you planning on making for the big day? Are you grilling with friends and family? Unfortunately as I type, it's suppose to be raining here, but like they say, the party must go on! We're actually grilling burgers and hot dogs with all the yummy sides. Last year I made a delicious Red, White, & Blue Fruit Salad that everyone really liked, so I may add that again this year.

I've been making homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches all summer. They are a huge hit with Alise and her friends (and Wayne, too!  He and Baby Girl fight over them!). To make things easier for the party, I've decided to go with frozen ice cream sandwiches and bling them out with all the red, white, and blue sprinkles.
Try this easy 4th of July Ice Cream Sandwich recipe. It is super simple but very festive for the perfect 4th of July dessert.
On Friday or Saturday, we're making homemade ice cream with my parents.  Our favorite is this Butterfinger Recipe that's been in Wayne's family since before we were even dating!

I wore this red, white, and blue outfit recently to our friends' cookout. I love to wear these three colors together near the end of June and into July to celebrate the holiday. I found this cute white and blue pen striped blouse a few years ago at Walmart. The navy eyelet and embroidery at the bottom, and bows on the sleeves really make this top stand out, on or off the shoulder. I paired it with poppy colored shorts, which are pretty old, but I feel fortunate enough to still be able to wear. And, of course, my leopard sandals that I can't seem to quit wearing.
This is my standard July 4th outfit. I normally wear it every year for our pool party. I don't normally like to wear sleeveless blouses, but this tank is so light and airy and since I'm usually running around playing Hostess with the Mostess, it just works.
I hope you and your family have a safe and WONDERFUL 4th of July holiday and weekend! Just think, Christmas is less than SIX MONTHS AWAY!! I'm just sayin'!

  6. I Love all the flags! I always think I'm going to go all out for the 4th but end up somehow being surprised when it's right around the corner and then think "next year." I think I get too focused on my birthday which is pretty close to the 4th!

  10. Y'all had ALOT of link ups! Congrats and HOO-RAY! Loved the post and your decorations are spot on! We will be at the beach house starting on Wednesday thru the 10th and then I come home for 4 days and head back over for 2 weeks. I AM SO EXCITED. Tony - not as much- he misses me cooking every night and generally just being here when he gets home at night but I told him- come over for a long weekend in the middle and it won't seem as bad. I am sorry but I LOVE being where it is cooler. I hate the heat. ok have a wonderful 4th! xo

  12. You tickled me about the sack crete. We have 40# of salt pellets at ours for our water filter. Doesn't everyone? Anyway, it's a win win with either of your cute 4th of July outfits. Have a great one!

  14. I love decorating with flags too. I have a few in my fern on the front porch, and we'll hang our flog on the front of the house. I hope the rain stays away for your pool party. I was thinking of making those same ice cream sandwiches. I also love following Jennifer, and thanks for mentioning her on IG! Hope you have a wonderful 4th! And no, I can't believe 2019 is halfway over...wasn't it just 1999?

  21. All the flags!! PC and I used to drive around and count how few flags we saw in our neighborhood on the 4th. But our flag holder gave up the ghost a few years ago and now we are guilty of not flying a flag, too. Would love to surprise PC with a flag pole if our ship ever comes in.
Your ice cream sandwiches look and sound delicious. I think PC would shoot me if I made some, accusing me of sabotaging his diet! He is doing so well but ice cream (and cheeseburgers) are our big temptations.
