Friday Favorites: Birthday Edition

It's Friday, Friends, and I am waaayy overdue for a Friday Favorites post! You probably don't realize this, but it's been since AUGUST since I've participated in  Friday Favorites! Wow! Where have I been? So today I'm sharing a few things about my birthday week and let's just say that the celebrations are continuing this weekend as well when some of my high school friends come to town! I can not WAIT to see these Girlies!!
This Sunday, January 27th, is National Chocolate Cake Day and I can't think of a better way to celebrate the day than with my very own personal birthday cake! Okay, so my birthday actually fell a week before the national day, but who cares? I certainly can't pass up chocolate cake, especially birthday cake! I told Wayne that I wanted a "very small" cake because I'm still trying to lose those last four pounds and I didn't want the temptation staring me down all week. He did an excellent job of making all my chocolate birthday cake wishes come true! Happy National Chocolate Cake Day, Friends!
My birthday weekend started off with a bang last Friday when one of my best friends took me to lunch at one of my favorite bistro spots. That evening, after Alise's basketball game, there was dinner and drinks with a few more friends. On Saturday afternoon, Wayne and I went to see the movie, The Upside, and it was one of the best movies we've seen in a while. The temperature dropped that day by like 40 degrees in just a few hours and it was rainy, so we decided to stay in with a nice fire, and Wayne grilled me (and him!) a steak. I'd much rather have a steak grilled by him than go to a restaurant for one. They are so darn good! Then on Sunday, my actual birthday, we went to church, had lunch at my favorite restaurant, and later that evening had apps, and cake and ice cream with my parents and close friends. It was absolutely perfect!

I have the absolute BEST blogger friends to remember my birthday! I got the sweetest card from Tanya and a few days later THIS arrived! I was super excited because she knows how much I love Philosophy and I've never received the birthday edition before. Thank you so much, Tanya, for your friendship and kindness!
Andrea blessed me as well with a PLETHORA of treats and surprises all wrapped up in this awesome gift box! She even gave me the purple plaid blouse I'm wearing in the cake picture above. She knows me so well and is one of THE best gift givers evah! Thank you, Andrea, for your love and thoughtfulness!
Speaking of CAKE, y'all, I WON a KING CAKE this week while I was at a conference! I was so surprised because I never win anything and it's one of the best King Cakes I've ever eaten! Mardi Gras is March 5th this year for all you bead catchers! I've only been to one Mardi Gras in New Orleans and it was when I was a freshman in college. And it is everything and more than they make it out to be on TV!
On Wednesday, our Nashville gang shared some pink inspiration and it was so much fun because we really didn't know what each other was posting, so it was a surprise that morning to "hop" around to each other's blogs and see what everyone was wearing. I loved chiming in with those girls, but I especially wanted to mention Andrea's post from earlier in the week titled, Grieving the Living. Oh, y'all! I get tears in my eyes just thinking about it. If you have never suffered from the loss of a LIVING relationship or friendship, then you are truly blessed. I believe that God places people in our lives for a reason and a season, and when something happens and they are no longer there, that emptiness in our hearts can be devastating. But it also reminds me of the One who will never leave me or forsake me. If you have time today, go visit Andrea and read her post. I'll leave you today with this quote she shared on Monday:
And just a friendly reminder, if you're interested in Writing With Me: 3 Things, here are the prompts for February 11th.
Happy Friday Friends! Enjoy your weekend!

  3. I'm so glad you liked the Philosophy gift. I'm so thankful for our "blog" friendship! That little cake looks just perfect. Leftover birthday cake is just the worst for creating temptation. Hope you birthday celebrations continue this weekend...stay warm!

  5. I completely understand the loss of a friend who is no longer in your life. I have one that left my life almost four years ago, and I think about him often. I don't know why the friendship ended, and I asked, but you are right there's a reason and a season. And he was there for me when I needed him, and when no one else was. So I need to focus on what I was given when it was given to me.

Happy birthday! It looks like it was a great celebration!! I'll be joining up with you on the 11th for 3 things! Have a great weekend!

  13. Happiest of birthdays, beautiful YOU! Wishing you the very best year. Glad those who love you most spoiled you on your special day.

Want to go over and read Andrea's post. I have lost several close friends after retirement. It was very hard for me. They are still working and of course, I am not, so we don't have much in common any more. It was hard knowing they could just move on so easily!

LOVE the photo of you and Wayne together. That is such a great picture. You look very happily in love.

  15. Laura, you are fabulous. Let me start there. And your birthday looked like a sweet "week" to remember...from cakes, quality time with your favorites and GIFTS. I love surprises. Now if I can get better about sending them and not overthinking it. I loved the blog hop too and hope we do it again. You're right, it gave that morning an extra boost. And there's that 3 things prompt I was asking about. Takes me a bit to get around the blogs, but am always so glad when I finally do. Love you friend!
