Post Christmas 2016 Post

By the time you're reading this, my mom and I will be on our way to the endodontist. That's a slang term for "guy that performs root canals." I asked if I could have a xanax before the consultation and I was told my insurance wouldn't cover it. Ha! Not really, but that's why my mom is taking me. I want to throw up just typing this! "It's just a consult" I keep telling myself. Surely I couldn't be as fortunate as about fifteen years ago when I went for a consult and was told I didn't need a root canal! What a happy day that was!

I'm also sad to report that this will probably be my last post for 2016. I want to enjoy the remainder of the year with my family and friends.  You understand.

So we had some pretty amazing moments over Christmas!  How was yours?

A week before Christmas, Steph had a game and it wasn't pretty. She was nearly in tears when she came out of the locker room and asked to leave immediately {we usually stand around and talk to the players and their parents after a game}. She and Alise were walking in front of Wayne and I when I snagged this pic. Be still my heart. Alise had been missing her big sis so much and was thrilled when she came back to the house to watch a movie and roast marshmallows in the fireplace with her.

Last Tuesday, the girls came over for our annual Christmas soiree! Awesome food! New recipes! Lots of laughs and fun! And that's all I'll say about that!

I was a little miffed on Wednesday when I had to take care of the team cat while they were away at a game in Houston.  You may have seen my snaps, but I was not a happy camper because I'm not a cat person. Ugh!  But I sucked it up and changed water bowls and fed the stupid cat. All in the name of love.

On Thursday, Steph and I had a Mama/Daughter date with party food leftovers. Poor baby had never had pigs in a blanket, so of course, I had to make them for her! She loved them! We had a fun "kick back." That's college slang for a party with just a few people. I'm learning.

Fast forward to Christmas Eve and my happiest moment of the entire holiday! Stephanie went to our church's Christmas Eve service with us and I asked a friend to take a picture. We've had a few pictures of us as a family of four before, but this one is oh-so special. It will always hold a special place in my heart and I can't wait to get it framed!

After church, we all went back to my parents for apps, which is tradition. After that, we went home, got the girls in the bed by midnight and Wayne and I played Santa with their gifts. Then we crashed!

On Christmas morning, Alise went upstairs to wake up Stephanie.  They both agreed to be up by 8:00 to open gifts - which is late for Alise because she usually gets up at 6:00 on Christmas morning, but she was very much obliging for her older sister this year - who I was glad we were able to talk in to staying the night with us! I just didn't want her to be alone in her apartment during the holidays. They both got tons of stuff, of course, but the highlight was when they opened their matching Beats.

Santa also brought Alise a new cellphone and she literally cried. My parents came over for lunch and we had steak, twice-baked potatoes, green beans, and salad. Everything was delicious! We spent the remainder of the afternoon playing games and watching movies.  It was the first Christmas EVAH that we've stayed in our pajamas all day and I loved every minute of it! One of Stephanie's team mates came over Christmas night and Wayne fixed pancakes and bacon for supper. And then Steph and Gabby left and Wayne and I crashed again!

The next day, I did something that I've never done and that's take down all my Christmas decor - including the tree! - the day after Christmas. It was just time. The girls tried to talk me out of it, but it was time to go.  Remember?  It's been up since the beginning of November!  I'm sure my maid will be very grateful to have it all gone, too.

And so fast forward to today and here I am about to head to the dentist. I still feel like I need a nerve pill.  Or a stiff drink. Mom and I should stop for a Bloody Mary on the way.  But then I might get sick from nerves - not the vodka! - and totally wig out thinking that my nervousness was making me actually puke my own blood!   Gruesome story, y'all, but that's how my mind is operating today!

May you all have a WONDERFUL New Year's Eve! I'm really hoping that nobody else dies, y'all, before 2016 ends.  Alise, being the Star Wars geek that she is, was so upset to learn that Carrie Fisher died yesterday.  Her heroine! And George Michael!  Gosh, he use to look so damn  good with that stubble and those tight pants!

Peace out till next year!

    1. I added you, Melanie! Steph is most definitely not a Southern girl, so she has certainly missed out on alot of the things we love.

    1. Happy New Year, Lisa! Thanks for asking and I'm planning to "update" all you sweet readers who have asked tomorrow in a post. But in the meantime, keep your fingers crossed! There is still a possibility I may not need a root canal! Right now, it is an old filling that is giving me problems, but I'm taking care of it ASAP!
