Currently ~ Birthday Edition

Eek!  June first is finally here and summer is definitely upon us! I'm doing lots of planning, enjoying, buying, craving, and pinning over on Anne's blog as I join her monthly linkup, Currently. Join us and meet some new bloggers! I'll just go ahead and apologize, too, for this being a catch up post about us celebrating Alise's birthday last week! But our little girl only turns eleven once!

planning// Well, Baby Girl left for her first official cheer camp yesterday morning at 4:30 AM. Yes, you read right. 4:30 AM. First of all, I can't believe that I didn't get on that bus and just go with her! What is wrong with me? Forgive me for not wanting to hang out at Great Wolf Lodge for four days at a UCA cheerleading camp with a bunch of hyper, screaming cheering girls. I work too hard to accumulate my personal time off for that. Secondly, the moment I read what time they were leaving, my mind went into overdrive thinking about her migraines and how she would cope {Thank you, Jennifer!} - especially after we were in Dr. S's office on Friday morning with sinus and upper respiratory infections! Having said all that, Wayne and I are planning to drive to Dallas Thursday night so that we will see her squad perform on Friday morning.

Here's a picture of us in the school parking lot around 4:30 Monday morning.  I thought I looked pretty good for four hours sleep and a 3 AM wake up call.  Ha!  That is, until my sweet, precious, just-turned eleven year old, told me, "Mom, I got this!" and walked away rolling her suitcase behind her. Oh, how I missed holding her hand at that moment. I may have shed a few tears on the way home. She did turn around and give me a wave, though, when she boarded the bus.

And so I thought this would be a great time to mention my friend Shelly's link up, Spiel the Beans with the Queens. The upcoming June prompt is Tips For Planning a Family Vacation, and honestly, I don't have any tips. Normally, we just GO and figure it all out when we get there. If it's a "big trip," like spending out 20th anniversary in Hawaii or something like that, we just book through a travel agent. Just GO!  Have fun!  That's what a vacation is all about!

enjoying// Seriously, I'm just enjoying the beginning of summer, long sultry days by the pool, lighter meals for supper time, a more relaxed schedule, and time with my family. I enjoyed getting to see Alise and our cheerleaders perform this past Friday night at their send off before camp. Life is good!

buying// I made the mistake of letting S and Alise grab lunch while I was getting my hair highlighted on Saturday and they ended up in the pool store. Alise decided that she wanted a see saw float for her birthday.

I reeeeaalllyyyy didn't want to buy that stupid thing, but that's all Baby Girl talked about so Wayne told me to stop by on my lunch break and get it for her. I did and let's just say that Alise and her friends obviously don't weigh enough to see saw in the pool! But then one of the girls had the idea of flipping it over and using it as a slide and they were all sliding down it non stop at the party!  It was a hit instead of a dud after all! But I have to say, don't waste your $75!!

And so random...but the last thing I bought for myself - other than groceries - I've been wanting a cold shoulder blouse for several weeks and just couldn't justify the price for the one I really wanted because I couldn't wear it to work or church. So I decided to go cheap and I bought this one off Amazon last week. It hasn't arrived yet, but I'll keep you posted.

craving// I'm craving birthday cake!  We celebrated Alise's birthday last week with her cheer friends and it was such a nice evening for a pool party!  Oh!  And water balloons! Her cake ended up looking absolutely HORRIBLE - SO ugly that I'm not even going to waste my time showing you a picture of it.  She wanted an ice cream cake this year and so I bought one from Dairy Queen.  The cake was delicious, but the decorating was so ugly! We covered it up the best we could with the eleven candles. I love birthday cake and ice cream and this cake is no exception!

Okay, so here's a pic of the birthday girl with the butt ugly birthday cake!

pinning// I pin. You pin. We all pin! Sometimes just sitting in the living room with Mr. Horton after Alise has gone to bed and paroosing Pinterest while he watches some stupid documentary on TV can be like therapy to me. It makes me happy.  Here are some things that I've pinned lately:

7 Fun Ways To Ice A Cake {One might think this was an omen since I pinned it before Alise's birthday!}

I'm not quite sure what my obsession is with brunch casseroles these days, but I've done alot of pinning pertaining to that hour of the day.  Can't wait to try all this deliciousness!

For those of you that might be interested, some fashion blogger friends and I have a Fashion Over 40 Board devoted to styles and trends for the "40 & Fabulous Club." Some of us pin our own fashion pics and some of us - like me! - pin just whatever we like. You can follow by clicking on the board on the right side of my blog. Here is a pin that I added to the board a few weeks ago. Loving the neutrals this spring!

And last but not least, S sent me this pic of a tapestry and lights that she wants to use for her room.  I had promised her this summer we would decorate it and even though it's not something I would have chosen, I decided to save the pin so that we could refer back to it when the time came to decorate.

Thank you so much for reading my blog today. I've been a little MIA recently due to our busy May, but I'm hoping our slower summer routine will take effect soon and I'll be back to more writing and commenting in Blog Land. As always, you can follow me on Instagram and my new favorite hang out spot is Snap Chat these days!

  2. Hope Alise has a great week at cheer camp. Pom camp for Melissa was always a big deal and we spent weeks finding props and costumes for the daily themes.

    1. Wow! 49 girls!! I actually got a Snap Chat pic of her around lunch. She was smiling, but the caption read, "Not a flyer." Ugh! I just don't understand why this child insists on wanting to break her neck! Ha!

  4. So fun seeing what you are currently up to. You look awesome for 4am! I bet Alise is having a wonderful time, and Great Wolf Lodge is such a blast. I had to laugh about getting on Pinterest when W watches (stupid) documentaries. Ditto around here. That see saw looks fun but huge. We had the white inflatable swan last year, and I had no idea how to store that thing! Have a safe trip to Dallas!

  5. Oh, my, I've gotten up twice this year at 3:00AM for early morning flights and oh, my, that is very early. You looked great and I'm sure it was a bit sad to realize she's growing up. Now, going to check out some of the blogs you mentioned. Safe travels to Dallas.

  6. Totally just wrote a long comment & it didn't post!!! Anyway. I love the top & since you can't wear it to church or work, tell Brown y'all need more date nights!! As for ice cream cakes, they are always ugly but taste delish! And y'all totally need a flamingo float like us! And a donut. And a Popsicle! S's room idea reminds me of Arabian Nights.
