First Day of Kindergarten

My kindergarten diva belle woke up at 5:30 this morning. That is 5:30 AM, friends!! To say she was excited for her first day of kindergarten would be an understatement.

Oh, how I could have stayed in bed!

But instead, I got up and fixed my wide-eyed-and-bushy-tailed girl a sausage and biscuit. She only ate half. With water. For some reason, she didn't want to do the chocolate milk thing today.

Alise drove me crazy while I tried to get ready. Even though I had the day off, it still takes alot of effort to take a shower and put on a t-shirt and walking pants. My shadow did not leave my side.

When it came time to get her dressed, we had the same meltdown we did last year. She didn't want to wear the monogrammed giraffe dress. Oh, how she whined and belly-ached about that! I finally had to threaten her by telling her that if she didn't wear it, I wasn't going to let her wear the outfit she had picked out to wear tomorrow. It's amazing how once she got the dress on, everything was right in the world again. I am SOOO not looking forward to the wardrobe fights every morning again!

And finally it was time to take pictures. Here she is....At the front door

On the stairs.

In the dining room. She had the choice of three different backpacks today and finally decided on the ladybug.

In front of the eye sore of a fireplace.

We got to school and there was NO holding Alise back! She was ready to run through the front door. I was glad that she wasn't nervous or dreading the first day and it was all I could do to hold back my tears. No boo-hoo tears, but tears just the same. The first thing she wanted to do was say "Hi" to Mrs. L and Mrs. J. I tried to discourage it because I knew they would be busy with their new group of PreK-4's, but she insisted.

After hugs from her old teachers, we walked down the hall to her new classroom. She spotted Mrs. M's Toy Story bulletin board and fell in love!

Alise and Mrs. M. I still can not believe that Mrs. M was MY kindegarten teacher thirty-two years ago! At the time, I attended public school and now Alise attends a small private school, so the odds of her getting the same teacher totally blows my mind! I LOVE Mrs. M and I just know that she is going to be the best teacher for Alise. I am so thrilled! When we walked in this morning, I told her that Alise had been up since 5:30. Mrs. M laughed and said, "Well, Alise, we should have called one another! I was up, too!" She also told Alise that she was so glad that she was in her class. My heart melted.
I decided to take matters in my own hands this year and make these candy bar covers for Mrs. M and her aide as First Day of School treats. They were so easy and inexpensive to make! I simply used colored card stock to cover the Hershey bars and bought some ric-rac for 99 cents. I found the embellishments on Michael's dollar aisle and even got an additional 50% off. They loved them!

Look at that face! How could I not be happy? Alise was thrilled with the Toy Story placemats at her desk - especially since she had one with Jesse on it! The children played with playdough this morning until everyone arrived.
And this is her desk mate. A actually cheers with Alise and was in her class last year. I was so thankful that she had a friend near by.

So I think Alise had a WONDERFUL first day of kindergarten. I was so glad that I got to take her and pick her up! We celebrated with lunch at McDonald's and even had a hot fudge sundae. After lunch, we came home and both Mommie and daughter crashed.

It was a GREAT day! We even got our first birthday party invitation today! That's right! On the first day of school!

  5. Love the dress & I'm glad she had a great 1st day. She & Bo would get along so well. He couldn't wait to be a kindergartener either.

As for the clothes, I've already sent my letter to the Dean requested uniforms!

  6. Oh how I loved the first day of kindergarten! Now that my boys are in 3rd and 6th grades, the first day of school is kind of anticlimactic. Sigh...

  7. Oh, that is the sweetest thing. I am glad you could take off today for her special day. She looks precious. I think I will have the ugly cry when MK goes to Kindergarten. You did great.
